I recently visited the Budget Rental on US 460 in Bluefield, WV. I was inquiring about leasing a 15ft truck for my family to take some special furnishings to Bluffton, SC. Ended up going to the Uhaul close to Budget - not to much difference in price but much more pleasant dealing with public. This lady does not make your business prosper!!
They said we didnt feel up our gas tank i made sure to top it off. I called back and she hung up on me.. never use these guys pay the little extra for uhaul. And uhaul will do price checks so just take your quote up to uhaul and you wont be disappointed.
I have called Uhaul and reserved the truck that I need. He stated it was on the lot and would be ready to be picked up at 8:30 am. Cheaper is not always better, as was the example in this case. If you do go with Budget, I would advise calling daily to determine the status of your reservation or allow time for the truck to arrive.
Fast forward to Tuesday evening, the day before I was scheduled to pick up the reserved truck, the same receptionist called stating that the truck would not be available until noon. There was some back and forth, as I asked about the validity of the reservation given that I've called a week ahead of time and provided my credit card information to hold the reservation. She stated that the reservation does not guarantee a truck to be available, nor does the credit card information. Of course, this sent me thru the roof, but to no avail. She gave me an ultimatum; wait until noon for the truck I reserved or take a smaller truck if they get one on the lot in the morning (no guarantee of that either). I responded that I wanted the truck I reserved and I wanted it at 9 am as was prior agreed. She yelled at me to "go to Uhaul!" and hung up the phone. So the night before the largest move of our families life, we didn't know if we had a truck, regardless of the fact that we reserved one from this company.
I called and "reserved" a truck a week ahead of time. During my conversation with the receptionist, she stated that the 26 foot truck that I was reserving would be available on Wednesday at 9 am. I asked again and confirmed the time, as I was moving my family across 3 states and needed to have this time reserved firmly in place to facilitate the move. I had called a competitor prior and Budget's prices were more affordable, so I booked the reservation. They took my credit card information to hold the reservation.
I called the Budget Corporate offices and the owner of that Budget franchise (who I know pretty well) and they both confirmed that the reservation does not guarantee a truck. The Corporate office was not helpful at all; but the owner gave me some sound advice and apologized for the situation.
