BSC has a long history. Over the years it's position on academics has changed. The engineering and nursing classes make up the majority of students interest.
I'm an HBCU alum, and i don't know very about this school and I'm an avid HBCU historian. I've heard much about it NOT being an HBCU, in the sense that there are hardly any black or minority students as is a few other colleges in this part of the U.S. If it is true, the history should remain, but funding as an HBCU should be pulled.
Honestly I know nothing about this college and I've never been there or know anyone but I think its a slap in the face to continue being funded as a historically black college when 90% of the students are white. Everything changed it seems from the political standpoint that cause the color of the school to change as well, except its title. To eat off the history of what was founded to educate the minority and then change the objective as to provide for the entire area evolved this as a place which oppressed the people that founded it. You changed it from a black institute, to bluefield state college, the first white president hired an almost all white staff, and since then its been built as an economic means to better your empire. No different from the slaves that built this country and the Europeans who stole the culture and labor and made it their own.
Been receiving emails from this school that I've never even heard of. Asked them to stop, but still keep getting them. The emails also begin with "Dear Greg", so they obviously can't even send the email to the correct person. So why would someone want to go to a school that ignores your requests and can't even send an email to the correct person???
they used to have a great computer science department, and I am sure they still do. However, some teachers were not so nice, giving grades by whether they like a student than by merit and test grades.
